Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Shatt al-Arab University, where the department was opened in 2022/2023

There is a growing demand for the civil engineering specialization in Basra Governorate for the public and private sectors, as there are plans to develop infrastructure that includes, for example, buildings, roads, bridges, water supplies, sewage networks, airports, ports, and oil facilities. The private sector is also active in constructing industrial, commercial, and residential buildings to meet the needs of the growing population and companies in the region.

We plan to continuously improve and develop the level of scientific curricula, academic training, and engineering services to match the department’s long history and reputation.

Department Mission

The department's mission is to prepare graduates in the field of specialization and provide them with the principles of knowledge, scientific and logical thinking, scientific research skills in civil engineering, and the skills necessary for future communication with society in various fields of work. Hence, the number of qualified graduates in the field of civil engineering to meet the requirements of the labor market, conduct theoretical and applied research, and provide advisory and educational services to various sectors of society.

Objectives of the Department

1. To create an appropriate environment for developing the capabilities and talents of students to prepare competent engineers who possess comprehensive knowledge in the basics of civil engineering.

2. To develop scientific research to provide effective solutions that improve the standard of living and drive the wheel of economic development by directing scientific research and academic curricula towards economic development and linking scientific research to the problems and needs of human society in general and in Iraq in particular.

3. To instill professional ethics in the souls of graduates and protect them against deviation and moving away from professionalism.

4. To provide distinguished engineering consultations through the consulting office and the continuous development of available expertise to ensure urban and construction progress in Basra Governorate in particular and Iraq in general.

5. To cooperate with scientific institutions in the fields of research, exchange expertise and encourage joint scientific research with Iraqi universities and reputable international universities.

6. To adopt international quality standards to measure the performance of faculty and researchers in the department to improve their scientific efficiency And cognitive.

7. Supporting the initiatives of faculty members and researchers in the department to create projects that serve the university and society.

8. Expanding extracurricular activities and developing students’ latent skills outside the academic field.

Our mission in the Department of Civil Engineering in short is to raise the level of quality and maintain the scientific foundations of the civil engineering profession, by providing the public and private sectors with competent civil engineers and spreading engineering science and culture, as well as developing the civil engineering profession by participating in research and providing advanced courses for civil engineers in the public and private sectors.
